Lake Superior Poem

Hallelujah to the full goodness
of wheat and branch,
the smell of weeds and lake trout,
to the far-flung rain across vast lake.

Hallelujah to the rings of the birch
and to the wild raspberries.

The distance of the night has ceased
and we are present in light,
in the firm hands of our Mother.
She mirrors our souls in dirt and water,
in the morning clouds.

Hallelujah. Peace of ink on paper,
breeze in tall grass and tree, the lap
of the water, the breath and taste
of the one you love. Beauty
of the absence of words.
